Digital Printing FAQ

Process & Limitations

What type of artwork is best for digital transfers (DTF, sublimation, etc.)?

High-resolution artwork with transparent backgrounds works best. PNG, PSD, TIFF, and vector files (AI, EPS, PDF) are all accepted. For sublimation, designs should use bright, vivid colors since they’ll blend into the fabric.

Do you require vector art, or are high-resolution PNG files acceptable?

For digital transfers, high-res PNG files (300 DPI) are perfectly fine - no need for vector art unless the design needs scaling or edits. The key is sharp, clean edges and transparency where needed.

How do you handle color accuracy and white underbase layers?

We print with CMYK plus white ink to ensure color vibrancy on any garment color. Our printers automatically add a white underbase where needed, and we calibrate colors for accuracy - though some variation is natural across fabric types.

Can you print gradients, photos, or special effects?

Absolutely. Digital transfers excel at gradients, shading, and photographic detail that traditional screen printing can’t replicate. Metallic or glitter effects require specialty media, which can be arranged on request.

What’s the best background (transparent vs. solid) for transfer artwork?

Transparent backgrounds are ideal, especially for designs that don’t cover the entire garment area. If your artwork has a solid color background, we can remove it for a cleaner edge before printing.

Artwork Requirements

What’s your typical turnaround for digital transfers?

Standard turnaround is 5-7 business days after artwork approval. For high-volume or custom transfer film orders, turnaround may extend slightly. Rush options are often available for smaller jobs.

Do you offer same-day or on-demand transfers?

Yes, depending on current production capacity and file readiness. We can often produce same-day or next-day transfers if artwork is approved early. On-demand options are great for short-run or repeat designs.

What’s the minimum order quantity?

There’s no strict minimum - digital transfers are cost-effective even for a single piece. However, pricing per unit improves with quantity, so batching orders saves money.

How should I store unused transfers for later use?

Store them flat in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Avoid moisture and heat, and keep them dust-free until you’re ready to press. Properly stored transfers can last 6-12 months easily.

Can I bring my own garments for application?

No.

Turnaround & Production

What types of garments or materials can transfers be applied to?

Digital transfers (often called DTF, vinyl, or heat transfers) use full-color printed film that’s heat-pressed onto the garment. Unlike screen printing, which uses liquid ink pushed through screens, transfers are printed digitally, allowing photo-quality detail and unlimited colors, even for small runs.

What types of garments or materials can transfers be applied to?

Transfers work on most cotton, polyester, and blended fabrics, including tees, hoodies, performance wear, and even bags or hats (depending on material and press area). Some finishes, like waterproof coatings or thick fleece, may limit adhesion, but we’ll test and advise before production.

Do digital transfers crack or peel over time?

Quality transfers are highly durable when properly applied and cared for. They don’t peel or crack easily, but like all prints, extreme heat or harsh washing can reduce longevity. With correct washing, they’ll look great for dozens of wears.

Are these full-color or limited-color prints?

Digital transfers are full-color, perfect for photos, gradients, or detailed artwork. There’s no per-color fee, making them ideal for vibrant or complex designs where screen printing would be too costly.

Can you produce transfers only (no garment) for resellers or decorators?

Yes! We can supply transfers ready to press, shipped flat or rolled, with pressing instructions included. It’s a great option for smaller shops, at-home decorators, or anyone managing on-demand production.
